Luxury, On Our Terms.
A cultural luxury review by Tahiirah Habibi.
Redefining luxury through hospitality, identity, and honest experience.
High Taste is a new cultural standard, a refined, identity-centered approach to reviewing hotels, restaurants, and curated experiences.
Rooted in the lived experience of a Black woman, mother, and cultural socialite, High Taste evaluates not just what looks luxurious, but what feels luxurious, respectful, and culturally aligned.
Only the spaces that honor us make the list.
Everything else is simply left unfeatured.

Letter from the Host: The Verdict
In 2011, I was part of the team that opened the St. Regis Bal Harbour. At the time, I believed the industry lie: that to be deserving of luxury, I had to look, act, and sound like someone else. I mastered the "white-glove" standard, learned the soil pH of the world’s most elite vineyards, and performed the quiet, polished version of myself that the room demanded.
Fifteen years later—after navigating global high-end spaces from the Court to Michelin-starred kitchens -I’ve realized that a lot of "luxury" can be just expensive noise. It is technically proficient but culturally hollow.
Worse, it often comes with a Luxury Tax: the emotional and psychological cost of code-switching just to be respected by the staff or the sommelier.
High Taste is the end of that performance.
I am no longer interested in "inclusion." Inclusion implies that someone else owns the door and is doing us a favor by letting us in. I am interested in Sovereignty. I am auditing the rooms that claim to be elite to see if they actually deserve our presence, our capital, and our peace.
The Standard
When I audit a space, I am looking for more than a vintage or a plating technique. I am looking for the Luxury of Peace.
Can I exist here as my unedited self? Does the hospitality have the emotional intelligence to see me without "the gaze"? Is the environment designed for the physical and psychological safety of a woman traveling solo, or a mother navigating the world with her daughter?
If a space requires you to shrink, it fails. If the "prestige" is a gimmick designed for a social feed rather than a disciplined expression of craft, it’s unseasoned.
The Shortlist & The Sanctuary
High Taste is my verdict.
The Shortlist is the collection of rooms that meet the standard—where the discipline is high and the friction is zero.
The Sanctuary Series is my personal commitment to identifying the spaces where women and families can finally off-duty their hyper-vigilance.
When the room isn't ready, I build my own. My activations are the blueprint: rare pours, authentic energy, and the quiet authority of knowing we belong exactly where we are.
Welcome to the standard. The room is finally yours.
